An excellent lecture by Michael S. Neiberg on the real reasons America entered the war. No, it wasn't because a certain passenger liner was torpedoed. The Allied cause was already popular with most Americans, including German and Irish Americans, who sympathised with the democracies and benefited from war-time trade. This support only became stronger when the Turks committed the Armenian Genocide, and, finally, when the Tsar fell and Russia temporarily became a democracy, the path was set for America to throw its hat into the ring on the side of the "good guys".
