There are lots of myths and memes about the 1945 general election landslide for Labour. One theory is that it was won by the votes of young men in the forces. However, the young tend to vote Left anyway, while the turnout among those in the forces was actually a lot lower than the general population. Another myth is that it was because of a less deferential attitude among the working classes. However, the swing in working class areas like Glasgow was very small. Professor Vernon Bogdanor unravels the mystery of Labour's greatest victory and why people turned against Churchill at the height of his glory.
