The Cold War "officially" ended on the 31st January, 1990, when the first McDonalds opened in Moscow's Pushkin Square. Approximately 38,000 customers waited for hours in long lines. The Soviet Union was still in existence and Gorbachev was President, but Boris Yeltsin, then the President of Russia, made an appearance. Soon McDonalds were everywhere. With the recent ending of McDonalds' presence in Russia a new Cold War may have begun.
