Video: Roosevelt, the 1944 Election, and the Second Phoney War

After destroying the German armies in the West in August 1944, the obvious thing to do for the Allies was push on into the heart of Germany. However, the Western allies mysteriously paused at the borders of Germany, allowing the Nazis to rebuild their forces. This period of relative quiet on the Western Front was effectively a second Phoney War. Was this down to "supply problems," as is often claimed, or was it down to Roosevelt's unwillingness to  risk high casualties in the run-up to the November 1944 Presidential Election?
